Semi-Truck Carrying Vehicles Crashes Into Panorama City Apartment Building
A car-hauling semi-truck crashed into a Panorama City apartment building on Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2026, injuring several people and forcing more than a dozen residents from their homes. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded at about 2:20 p.m. to the apartment complex at 8935 Van Nuys Boulevard near Osborne Street.
The truck was carrying eight vehicles when it left the roadway, struck parked vehicles, went over the curb, and crashed into the front of the 44-unit apartment complex. ABC7 reported that about a dozen parked vehicles were damaged during the collision.
Three people were treated following the crash. The semi-truck driver and another person were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a third person was treated at the scene and declined hospital transportation. The American Red Cross assisted 13 residents who were displaced, and at least one apartment unit was heavily damaged.
The driver later told ABC7 that he began feeling nauseous and tried to pull over toward the center median before the crash. He said the next thing he remembered was hearing people screaming inside the apartment building. LAPD told ABC7 the collision was determined to be an accident and no arrests were made, although the investigation remained ongoing. The collision happened in the 8900 block of Van Nuys Boulevard near Osborne Street during the afternoon. The cab of the large vehicle transporter came to rest partially inside the two-story apartment building after leaving the roadway.
ABC7 reported that the truck was carrying eight vehicles at the time. Before striking the apartment complex, it hit parked vehicles along Van Nuys Boulevard, causing substantial damage outside the building as well as to the structure itself.
A family living in the apartment directly struck by the truck told ABC7 they were eating lunch when the vehicle came through the wall. Residents described the impact as sudden and violent, but no fatal injuries were reported.
A gas line was also damaged, and building inspectors were called to evaluate the structure. Urban Search and Rescue and Heavy Rescue crews assisted with securing the scene and removing the vehicle transporter from the building.
