Three New Lawsuits Allege Serious Brain Injuries After X2 Roller Coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Three new lawsuits filed against Six Flags Magic Mountain allege that riders suffered severe brain injuries after riding the X2 roller coaster at the Valencia amusement park. The cases add to ongoing scrutiny surrounding the attraction, which Six Flags says has remained closed since July.

Serious injuries at amusement parks can raise complicated questions involving ride operation, maintenance, warnings, property safety, medical causation, and—in some cases—ride design or manufacturing. What Happened at Six Flags Magic Mountain?

According to a September 23 report from ABC7 Los Angeles, three lawsuits recently filed against Six Flags Magic Mountain allege that riders suffered major brain injuries after riding X2. Attorneys representing the plaintiffs also told ABC7 that their firm has been retained by more than 100 additional people who reported possible brain injuries following rides on the coaster.

That figure comes from attorneys representing people making claims and should not be interpreted as an independent medical finding or determination of liability. The allegations in the newly filed lawsuits have likewise not been established as fact through a final court judgment.

According to the report, one rider alleged that she became confused and disoriented after getting off X2 during a July visit before later requiring emergency brain surgery and an extended hospitalization. Another plaintiff reportedly underwent two brain surgeries, while the family of a third rider alleges she sustained a catastrophic brain injury and remained hospitalized.

Six Flags told ABC7 that X2 remains closed and has been closed since the evening of July 12. A park spokesperson declined to comment further because of the pending litigation.

What Do the New Lawsuits Allege?

The lawsuits reportedly allege that X2 has design-related problems and that the ride caused or contributed to serious neurological injuries suffered by the plaintiffs. These are allegations made in pending civil cases, and the defendants will have an opportunity to dispute the claims and present their own evidence.

The new filings also come after earlier litigation concerning injuries allegedly associated with X2. ABC7 previously reported that another injury case involving a rider who alleged a traumatic brain injury after a 2020 ride is scheduled for trial in 2027. Separate earlier litigation involving X2 has also been resolved through settlement.

Each case involves its own facts, medical evidence, ride history, and legal issues. Prior allegations or settlements should not be treated as proof that the defendants are responsible for the injuries alleged in the newly filed lawsuits.

Serious Brain Injuries Can Have Long-Term Consequences

A traumatic brain injury can affect memory, concentration, communication, balance, sleep, mood, physical abilities, and a person’s capacity to work or perform normal daily activities. Severe injuries can require hospitalization, surgery, rehabilitation, neurological treatment, and substantial assistance during recovery.

Brain injuries can also be difficult to evaluate from outward appearance alone. Some neurological effects are not immediately visible, and the full extent of an injury may become clearer only after medical evaluation and continued treatment.

What May Be Investigated After a Serious Amusement Park Injury?

A serious injury involving an amusement ride can require examination of substantially more information than a typical accident. Investigators may need to determine exactly when the person rode the attraction, where the person was seated, how the ride operated during that cycle, what symptoms appeared afterward, and whether there were any unusual events during the ride.

Maintenance and inspection information can also become relevant depending on the allegations. Ride records, repair histories, incident reports, operating procedures, surveillance footage, witness accounts, employee information, and communications concerning prior problems may help establish what occurred.

When a lawsuit alleges a problem involving the design or mechanics of a ride, engineering evidence may also become important. Experts may examine the ride vehicle, restraint system, movement, forces experienced by riders, manufacturer information, testing, and other technical evidence before reaching conclusions about causation.

Medical evidence remains a separate and equally important part of the investigation. Hospital records, imaging, neurological evaluations, surgical records, rehabilitation, prior medical history, and the progression of symptoms can help determine the nature and cause of an alleged brain injury.

Amusement Park Injuries Can Raise Premises Liability and Safety Questions

Theme parks are commercial properties that invite large numbers of visitors onto rides, walkways, attractions, restaurants, parking areas, and other facilities. Depending on how an injury occurs, questions may arise about the company or companies responsible for operating, managing, maintaining, inspecting, or controlling the relevant attraction or property.

An injury occurring at a theme park does not automatically mean that the park acted negligently. A premises liability or other personal injury claim generally requires evidence connecting the responsible party’s conduct or a dangerous condition to the injury.

This distinction is especially important in a case involving a complex amusement ride. An investigation should determine what actually happened instead of assuming that a serious medical outcome, standing alone, establishes negligence.

Evidence Can Become Important Soon After an Amusement Park Accident

Theme park injury investigations can involve evidence held almost entirely by the business or other companies involved with the attraction. Surveillance footage, operational records, inspection information, maintenance records, electronic ride information, incident reports, and employee observations may all help explain the circumstances surrounding an injury.

Visitors can preserve their own information as well. Admission records, mobile-app activity, photographs, videos, receipts, timestamps, witness contact information, and communications made immediately after the incident may help establish when and where the person was at the park.

Medical documentation can be particularly important when a person develops neurological symptoms. Records showing when symptoms began, when medical care was obtained, what doctors observed, and what treatment followed can help establish an accurate chronology rather than relying on memories months or years later.

Serious Commercial-Property Injuries Require Individual Investigation

The allegations involving X2 illustrate why serious injury claims should be evaluated according to their individual facts. Multiple people may report similar experiences, but each person’s medical history, ride experience, symptoms, treatment, and evidence remain distinct.

The same principle applies to other California premises liability matters. A serious injury at a mall, restaurant, market, hotel, entertainment venue, amusement park, parking area, or other commercial property does not establish liability by itself, but it can justify investigating what happened and who controlled the circumstances that led to the injury.

How DAG Law Firm Can Help After a Serious Injury

DAG Law Firm can investigate serious personal injury and premises liability matters involving California commercial properties. Depending on the circumstances, an investigation may include reviewing incident reports, surveillance footage, witness information, medical documentation, maintenance or inspection information, potentially responsible companies, and available insurance coverage.

Brain injury cases can require additional attention to neurological treatment, rehabilitation, future medical needs, ability to work, and changes in everyday independence. Understanding both how the accident occurred and how the injury has affected the person is important when evaluating the complete claim.
