79-Year-Old Woman Killed After Tesla Crashes Into Café Patio In Simi Valley
A 79-year-old woman was killed after a Tesla left a shopping-center parking-lot travel lane, crossed onto a sidewalk and crashed into the outdoor area of Urbane Cafe in Simi Valley on June 29, 2026. The collision occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near Tierra Rejada Road and Madera Road.
Simi Valley police reported that the woman was walking on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant when she was struck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other people were initially reported injured, including occupants of the Tesla. Later reporting identified the woman who died as Virginia “Ginny” Shields of Agoura Hills.

Police responded to Urbane Cafe at the shopping center near Tierra Rejada and Madera roads at approximately 2:30 p.m. Investigators said Shields had been walking along the sidewalk in front of the restaurant when the Tesla left the parking-lot travel area and struck her.
Surveillance video reviewed by police reportedly showed the Tesla traveling north through the Target parking lot before attempting to turn east toward Madera Road. The vehicle did not complete the turn, crossed the sidewalk and came to rest near the restaurant’s outdoor seating area.
Shields was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was hospitalized with injuries, and juvenile occupants of the vehicle were also evaluated following the crash. Authorities continued investigating why the vehicle left its intended path.
